ABOUT SENSE DEVELOPMENT

Bridging The Gap

Description:
The space between our inner and outer worlds is connected through our senses. It is the functional use of hearing, sight, smell, touch and taste that enable us to make sense of ourselves, the world and others. Sense Development uses different tools and interventions to enable people with mental health, learning difficulties, sensory impairment, neurological conditions and addictions to overcome psychological, social physical problems. Its core principles are based on the latest psychological, biological and neurological evidence and can be readily designed to fit the needs of the client.

“All our knowledge begins with the senses, proceeds then to the understanding, and ends with reason. There is nothing higher than reason.”

BRENDAN WHYATT

I am a qualified and registered Nurse with A Bachelor of Science degree in Mental Health Nursing. Working in healthcare since 1998, after registration I spent the last 7 years working across a wide range of patient groups and in various settings including inpatient, rehabilitation and community. In 2005 I worked as a Teachers Assistant in a Special Needs School. This is where I began to create Sense Development as a tool to teach phonemes to 8 year old boys, making a significant difference to their behaviour and learning capacity. A phoneme is the sound of a word. Shortly after this I started to experience a ringing in my right ear. This developed into tinnitus and I continue to it have to this day. I continued to use sound as a medium for helping other Special Needs children and the general public. Whilst working in New Zealand as a Mental Health Nurse I discovered that Sensory Modulation was readily used in Mental Health Services. This inspired me to launch Sense Development to give people the opportunity to heal and recover in a purely organic way.
If, like myself you are also a tinnitus sufferer, you may know that as yet there is no cure for this debilitating disease. However, I have found that through methods of interaction there are ways in which we can reduce the symptoms of tinnitus and make our lives more liveable.
My style of working is with a Person-Centred Approach. I am currently offering a free 15 minute consultation via telephone. This will be followed by a 30 minutes assessment for £30 via telephone or zoom to determine your specific needs followed by an agreed treatment plan and goals. Please enquire using my contact details below.
